FORTY firefighters tackled a property blaze near Bournemouth airport on Monday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at about 3pm following reports of a fire in the first floor and roof of the unoccupied house in Mill Lane.

Crews from Christchurch and Redhill Park, who arrived within nine minutes, requested support and, at its peak, seven fire engines and support vehicles were at the scene.

Firefighters used breathing gear and an aerial platform to extinguish the blaze.

Speaking to the Daily Echo at the scene, Mick Stead, group manager at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’ve had a very serious bedroom fire. We’re not certain about the cause; a fire investigation will take place.

“The initial crews have stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the property, it’s been limited to the one room.”

The fire caused traffic around the scene to build up as roads were closed to allow access for fire crews.
