HUNDREDS of people are expected to pack out Swanage’s St Mary’s Church for Jesse Jones’ remembrance service tomorrow.

The popular 24-year-old disappeared after a night out with friends in Swanage town centre.

Despite a police search, and a massive internet campaign launched by Jesse’s friends, his body washed up on a nearby beach days later.

By then more than 1,800 people had joined the Facebook website “Please help search for Jesse John Jones”, and Twitter followers had spread the message, which was picked up and re-tweeted by celebrities including Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr.

Jesse’s father Derek, a television producer, said: “Everyone is welcome at the afternoon service. This has all just been unbearable for us and Jesse’s friends.”

Derek and Jesse’s sister Laura will speak at the service.

“Jesse was a unique character,” said his father. “He was very individualistic. Even his friends said he was born in the wrong time – he should have grown up in the 1960s.

“When we think of Jesse we think of him singing and playing guitar in his room.

“It permeated the whole house. We’ll miss hearing him sing.”

The university graduate was passionate about reading and music, playing the guitar, drums and harmonica and writing his own songs.

Jesse’s friends handed out thousands of flyers in Swanage and London in their search.

Derek said: “They didn’t give up. They went out every day looking for Jesse.

“We’re extremely indebted to all of them – I cannot thank them enough for what they did.”

There will be a private family funeral at Poole Crematorium tomorrow morning before the public service at St Mary’s Church at 3pm.
