A TEENAGE dancer from Wimborne is a step closer to realising her dreams.

Sophie Wathen is part of a 24-strong group called Tap Attack and the collective have made it through to the live semi-final stage of Sky1’s Got To Dance show.

Tap Attack are one of just 28 acts left in the programme out of 5,000 that auditioned in the hope of being crowned Britain and Ireland’s top dance act.

Sophie, who is 13 and goes to Allenbourn Middle School, said: “Being selected from the 5,000 which auditioned is a massive achievement in itself, but we really need the support of the people of Dorset to help us make the final.

“This series the cost of voting has been dropped to just five pence so I hope if people like us they’ll pick up the phone and vote on more than one occasion.”

Judging the show are Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashley Banjo, from dance group Diversity, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and actor and tap dancer Adam Garcia.

They awarded Tap Attack top marks at their initial audition, before Adam Garcia paid them a personal visit to tell them of their success.

Tap Attack formed in 2006 and are directed by choreographer, performer and world record holder Jo Scanlan, who is one of the country’s leading tap specialists.

Got To Dance, presented by Davina McCall, is on Sundays at 6pm and Tap Attack will feature in one of the upcoming semi-finals.
