MATT Tubbs insists Crawley’s giant-killers only have to look at Exeter and Burton to see what can be achieved at Old Trafford.

The Grecians and Brewers have both held Premiership giants Manchester United to goalless draws at The Theatre of Dreams in the FA Cup since 2005.

Like Crawley now, the first non-league side to reach the last 16 for 17 years, Exeter and Burton were both Conference sides at the time.

United made short work of the Grecians and Brewers in away third-round replays, winning 2-0 and 5-0, respectively.

But Tubbs, the ex-Cherries school of excellence striker, believes Exeter’s and Burton’s brave displays in 2005 and 2006 can only inspire his current side.

The former Rossgarth youth team player said: “Almost everyone will say it’s going to be easy for United, that they’ll get through comfortably to the sixth round.

“Exeter and Burton have got draws at Old Trafford, though, so why can’t we?

“We’ve just got to pray they have an off-day and we have an unbelievable day.”

Verwood-based Tubbs cracked Crawley’s sensational winner in a 1-0 triumph at Torquay in the fourth round.

That was after the former Salisbury frontman had already played a pivotal part in helping them send Championship outfit Derby and League One side Swindon spinning out.

Asked if he would like to see the likes of Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Nani and Rio Ferdinand start for United in the tie later this month, Tubbs said: “That would be nice!

“I hope they do put out some big names. Then I can say I’ve played against some of the world’s best players, from one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“There could be 70,000-plus inside Old Trafford and millions watching on live TV worldwide.”

The ex-Bolton academy player added: “It’s going to be an occasion everyone is going to remember and cherish forever, but we won’t be overwhelmed by the venue or size of the crowd.

“We have a great mentality in our team and nothing to lose.

“If we put in an unbelievable performance, we might get something out of it.”
