VICTOR Mears has admitted during his trial over Lapland New Forest that he took a “bit of a gamble”.
The 67-year-old from Brighton is on trial at Bristol Crown Court over the failed festive attraction at Matchams, near Ringwood, which ran over Christmas 2008.
He said that he set up the attraction without investing money, in the belief that the money would come in as people bought tickets.
And he said that rather than write details down, he made verbal agreements and arranged many of the details in his head, like a market trader.
The prosecution accused Victor Mears of taking a gamble with other people’s money.
Mears, and his brother Henry, 60, also from Brighton, deny misleading customers.
The case continues.
