A woman has been airlifted to Poole Hospital following a road accident in Corfe Mullen at about 9.30am.
The accident happened near the Coventry Arms and involved a green VW Polo registered to a Poole woman and a red Vauxhall Corsa registered to a woman from Poole.
Two fire crews from Wimborne dashed to the scene and called for back up from a third crew from Poole. Fire fighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the motorists from their vehicles.
Dorset Air Ambulance flew a woman to Poole Hospital for treatment to neck injuries.
A second woman - the driver of the red Corsa - was taken to hospital for injuries to her pelvis described by police as "serious".
Dorset Police closed a section of the A31 in both directions between the B3074 Blandford Road and the A350 Poole Road at the Roundhouse Roundabout.
The road was reopened at 12pm.
