BAE Systems, which owns Integrated System Technologies in Christchurch, is cutting 1,300 jobs.
The company said that this announcement is the result of the government’s spending review, which scrapped the Nimrod spy planes and Harrier fighter jets.
It is believed that 700 jobs will be cut at its Woodford site in Stockport where it assembled the Nimrod. An additional 650 jobs are at risk at other BAE sites where both aircraft were assembled.
BAE employs about 40,000 staff in the UK. It is thought that staff at Integrated Systems Technologies will not be affected.
