An internet research project at the Bournemouth Echo is seeking the views of online users.
A questionnaire has been set up to ask readers what they like about the Bournemouth Echo website and how they would improve it.
The study is particularly interested in reader interaction via comments on stories, the use of Twitter and sharing stories through e-mail and Facebook.
The research is being carried out by The University of Sheffield which is comparing different local newspaper websites across the country.
Lead researcher Lily Canter said: "This is really valuable research about the changing nature of journalism and the increasing use of social media between the media and the public. I would urge anyone who reads the Bournemouth Echo online to take part and voice their opinion.
"The future of local newspapers is a vitally important social issue and the internet will be a crucial part of this."
The questionnaire is completely anonymous.
