A MOTORCYCLIST was lucky to survive after his bike was in collision with a car at an accident blackspot.

The 49-year-old man from the Bovington area suffered serious neck injuries in the smash, which closed the A352 at East Stoke for three hours yesterday.

His Yamaha 600cc motorbike was in collision with a black Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the same direction. It was the third accident on the route in the same day.

Sergeant Tony Burden said: He added: “The police and paramedics attended, the fire brigade from Wareham also attended because there was a fuel leak.

“The motorcyclist was taken to Poole Hospital by land ambu-lance, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”

The driver of the car, also a 49-year-old man from the Bovington area, was uninjured.

Police closed the A352 road for three hours from the Puddletown junction to the Bovington roundabout.

East Stoke resident David Rose, aged 70, said: “I was sitting having my lunch when I heard a bang and a puff of smoke.

“I immediately called the police and ambulance. I put a blanket over the motorcyclist and he blinked his eyes when I asked if he was OK.

“He was lucky to be alive because it was a hard collision and he looked seriously injured.

“The ambulance crews managed to get him to move his hand.”

Mr Rose said several other drivers stopped to offer their assistance, including a group in high visibilty jackets, and many passers-by contacted the emergency services although they struggled to describe the rural location.

He added that it was a crash hotspot and said: “I’ve been here 25 years and there are so many accidents along here.

“There’s still remnants of another bike crash up the road.

At around 6.45am yesterday, a Nissan Navara 4x4 ended up in a hedge in a collision on the same road near East Stoke. And further down the road at the Worgret end, a silver Nissan Micra, registered to a woman from the Wareham area, ended up on its roof after a collision with a tractor at 7.35am.

The road was said to be very icy early yesterday.
