COUNTY president Rosemary Spetch led from the front when Dorset defeated Gloucestershire 18-4 (131-103) in the South-West Counties Women's League at Wimborne.

The Poole Park skip combined with Pamela Daters (Bridport), Wendy Hardy (Poole Park) and Wimborne's Jenny Andrews for a 26-13 victory the biggest of Dorset's four wins.

Other successes came from Bridport's Sue Hosking (23-13) and Greenhill twosome Margaret Mitchell (30-22) and Sheila Baker (17-14) as Dorset put themselves in good heart for this week's visit to Cornwall.

Beaten skips were Freda Yates of Blandford (21-16) and county secretary Nancy Bennett from Poole Park (21-20).

West Moors squeezed past Lyme Regis 38-37 on an extra end in their June Culpin Trophy first-round match thanks to Janet Price whose 24-15 win outweighed the 22-14 defeat of Jean Anderson.
