SHOPPERS did a double take when they spotted a Victorian couple wandering around Bournemouth Square.

It was the launch of White Lantern Film’s My BH200 project, which aims to make 200 60-second films celebrating Bournemouth’s heritage and bicentenary.

The film production company is challenging young people aged between 13 and 19 to create films that bring to life memories, stories and events that form part of Bournemouth’s 200-year history.

The Victorian couple were production assistant Angelica Jopson and production co-ordinator Rob Fuller, who teamed up with workshop co-ordinator Steven Lake to produce their own one-minute film to kickstart the Daily Echo-backed project.

Steven said: “We want to raise awareness of the project. We had the idea of having a camera here as a good example of what the project is all about. Our film is about two Victorians trying to cope with modern-day life.”

The team also gave out leaflets and information from a stall during the day.

Films can be about any part of Bournemouth’s history and in any form such as a mini movie, a comedy or even a news broadcast or play.

There are prizes for the best short films, including first prize and runners up.

White Lantern Film is holding workshops at secondary schools in Bournemouth devoted to ideas development.

The closing date for entries is midnight on April 8, 2011, and winners will be announced by May 1.
