A FORMER police officer, behind bars for viciously attacking an ex-lover and her daughter, has now been convicted of sex charges.

His latest victim, who met David Ewen in a bar, contacted police after seeing newspaper headlines of a previous case, and told them how he had raped her after an evening out 10 years ago.

Now Ewen, 49, has been found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting her following a five day trial at Southampton Crown Court.

Jurors knew that the former captain of New Milton rugby club had been jailed for an unrelated assault. But after returning their verdicts, they learned how Ewen had received an indeterminate sentence of at least three years for aggravated burglary and assault.

Prosecutor Charles Thomas told them that Ewen was also awaiting sentence for sex offences against three girls.

Following an application by defence barrister James Newton-Price, Judge Jayne Miller QC adjourned sentence until next month for reports and to re-assess his level of dangerousness.

The woman told the court they went to bed after returning to her New Milton home, but after kissing and cuddling, he suddenly “flipped” her over and, pinning her face down, raped her.

The assault, she said, left her in so much agony she had to go hospital where it was discovered she had broken a small bone near her spine and she was prescribed painkillers.

Ewen, who used to live in Brownsea Close, New Milton, claimed sex between them was “100 per cent consensual” and he had never made her feel “uncom-fortable” during the sex session.

It was in May 2009 that Ewen – who joined the police as an 18-year-old and served in Manchester before leaving the force and moving south – received his indeterminate sentence when a judge branded him as a danger to the public.

Ewen donned a black balaclava and armed himself with a wooden truncheon before breaking into the home of former girlfriend Theresa Amey and attacking her and her daughter.
