A GRANDMOTHER who died after her car ploughed into a garage door had been planning a memorial service for her husband the next day.

Paula Bright, 77, died following the accident at the Garden House block of flats on Meyrick Road, near the Roundhouse Hotel, Bournemouth, at around 3.45pm on Thursday.

She and her family were set to gather for a service yesterday to mark the death of husband Jack who passed away suddenly in November.

Mrs Bright was thought to have been parking her new automatic silver Rover when it went out of control.

Nearby workmen went to her assistance and called the emergency services, said neighbours.

Mrs Bright was taken to Poole hospital but died at around 10.30pm that day.

The pensioner, who was the daughter of the late Rabbi Jonal Indech, had moved to the flats in Meyrick Road with her husband more than 10 years ago to be nearer to the synagogue.

The couple were said to be very active in the Jewish community and supported many charities.

She had three sons and one daughter who all had children.

Her daughter is believed to live in the Bournemouth area and teaches on the Isle of Wight and one of her sons is said to be a Rabbi in Canada.

Mrs Bright’s funeral is expected to take place tomorrow in accordance with Jewish tradition.

Roy Scott, chairman of the flats’ residents association, who saw her just moments before the accident, described her as “a dignified lady”.

He said: “It’s tragic. She was lovely and so friendly to everyone. She got on with everybody in this block of flats and was very devoted to her family.”
