HENRY the calf, who thinks he’s a dog, continues to cause a stir online.

The four-and-a-half month old was featured in the Daily Echo, earlier this year, after he was abandoned by his mother then taken in my a Swange farmer.

He was close to death when Ben Bowerman and his family decided against simply letting nature take its course.

They nursed him back to health and documented his progress, posting the short episodes online for the masses.

And these episodes have continued to prove popular – attracting more than 14,000 hits worldwide.

The once fragile calf, who now thinks he’s a family pet, still lives in the farmhouse garden at 300-acre Godlingston Manor Farm, near Swanage. But he has been weaned and spends most days with the rest of the herd.

Ben said: “He acts like a dog, but considering he could grow to around 600 kilos this could be a bit awkward.

“Now he is more or less weaned I thought it would be nice to let your readers know how he is doing.

“The last many people heard was that Henry was fighting for survival. Well, he has survived.”

Henry no longer has the run of the kitchen, where he used to mix freely with the Bowerman family.

Ben said: “He’s quite big now. Where a wet wipe and a mop may have sufficed before, we would need a shovel and a fire hose to clean up if he got in now.”

But Henry still says hello to the family every morning.

“He comes up and puts his head through the open window and has some toast with us. In many ways, he is still very much a family pet,” said Ben.

He added: “His favourite thing is to come up behind me and when I’m not aware, put his head under my backside and lift me off my feet.

“Then he’ll kneel down on the ground, putting his head on the ground so you can give it a good scratch.

“We will leave him with the herd at some point.”
