Yellow, white and blue were the colours of the day as more than 250 people gathered to celebrate the love and laughter that Spurs fan Luke Barnes had brought to their lives.

Three close friends of the 25-year-old mechanic, who drowned in his swimming pool in Westbourne earlier this month, clutched water-mad “Lukie’s” skimboard while pallbearers, wearing last season’s Tottenham Hotspur tops donated by Daily Echo readers, carried his coffin into Bournemouth’s Spiritualist church.

Tearful family members, also dressed in the team colours, followed behind as Frank Sinatra’s My Way played. Luke’s mum Jayne read a poem called A Letter From Heaven before his older sister Nadine led emotional tributes.

She said: “I will always remember you playing loud tunes in your car or singing in the shower. What I wouldn’t give to take you to another concert. You had such an impact on everyone you met.”

Luke’s uncle Mark recalled how his mischievous nephew had grown into a fun-loving guy, enjoying music ranging from soul to opera.

He added: “Luke was full of laughter and love. He loved everybody and would always tell them that.”

Grieving friends told how Luke had been “a ladies’ man” and had helped shape their lives. One fondly remembered shopping trips on Christmas Eve.

As Luke’s coffin, containing a signed Tottenham shirt donated by club manager Harry Redknapp, left the church for a private service at Bournemouth crematorium, mourners released balloons in the team’s colours.
