IT wasn’t such a lunar-tic idea – a midnight walk in fancy dress has raised almost £22,000 and counting for Forest Holme Hospice in Poole.

More than 200 people took part in the Lunar Walk at midnight on Saturday, setting off from the Dolphin Shopping Centre.

Participants could choose from a nine-mile walk or a four mile stroll to Sandbanks and back under the moonlight.

Before setting off they did warm-up exercises with fitness instructor Karen Maund and were entertained by Elvis tribute act Willard Ford in the mall.

The Echo-backed walk, which is now in its third year, raises money to help the hospice continue to enhance the quality of life for patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

Forest Holme fundraising manager Debra Dennett said: “All the money raised makes a huge difference to people’s lives, so for that we owe huge thanks to everyone involved.”
