A BOURNEMOUTH Conservative councillor has now been suspended for more than two months – and still party chiefs refuse to comment on the reasons why.

Cllr Douglas Spencer was suspended by the Tory party nationally in June and has been the subject of an investigation by the board of the Conservative Party.

His suspension from the party means he is also currently exiled from the Conservative Group on Bournemouth council and he was removed from his positions as cabinet member for housing and chair of the Bournemouth West Conservative Association.

But none of the organisations have explained why the action has been taken. All that has been said is that his conduct was being examined following a complaint by a member of the Bournemouth West Conservative Association.

Unlike other Tory councillors who have been the subject of investigation, Cllr Spencer’s case is not being considered by Bournemouth council’s standards committee but is being solely dealt with by the Conservative Party.

Cllr Spencer told the Daily Echo: “I shall be issuing a press release once the Conservative National Central Board has |determined a decision.

“The position is the appeal has been heard and it’s now for them to determine that.

“They did not meet in August so I anticipate a decision being made in early September.

“I am not in the Conservative group at the moment but as far as my politics are concerned, nothing has changed.”

A spokesperson at Conservative Campaign Headquarters would confirm only: “The investigation is still ongoing.”
