THE first of a weekly steam train service for the summer rolled into Bournemouth station on Wednesday.

Heritage rail operator, The Railway Touring Company (RTC), is providing a different train every week until September 1, starting with the N15 King Arthur Class 4-6-0 30777 Sir Lamiel locomotive, built in 1925.

The Dorset Coast Express service allows passengers to see the sights from London Victoria Station to Weymouth.

Leaving Bournemouth station on Wednesdays at 12.27pm, it goes on through Dorset, briefly stopping at Wareham before finishing at Weymouth.

Passengers get off at any stop to visit the area before hopping on the returning service later that afternoon. Prices start at £59 per person or £169 for a family of four.

Managing director Nigel Dobbing said the popularity of its regular summer steam services in Yorkshire and the North West had led them to launch steam services through this area in 2010.
