HERE’S a wizard idea from the Mayoress of Bournemouth that could create a little magic for less fortunate children.

Vivienne Goldbart, wife of Mayor Cllr Barry Goldbart, is appealing to residents to donate their surplus copies of Harry Potter books and DVDs to the Variety Club Wessex.

She came up with the idea after being told by the charity that the children it helps are just potty about Potter.

The Variety Club focuses on small things that make a big difference to the lives of sick, disabled or disadvantaged youngsters. And for many youngsters, a simple Harry Potter book or DVD is top of their wishlist.

Vivienne said: “I was told how so many children ask for a copy of Harry Potter and then I went to Girlguiding Dorset’s 100-year Thanksgiving event at Dean Court. I looked around at the hundreds of young people there and I wondered how many of them had Harry Potter books at home that they don’t want anymore.

“That was how the idea started. Even if I only pass 20 or so books that will be a real help.”

Anyone who has any books or DVDs, new or unused, they want to donate should send them to Vivienne at the Town Hall, Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DY.
