Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Amsterdam. The career of visual DJ duo Comix, aka Harry Bird and Sam Hodgkiss, has certainly gone from strength to strength since graduating from the Arts University College Bournemouth.

Having provided visuals for Annie Mac’s New Year’s Eve party and toured as VJs for Radio 1’s Kissy Sell Out, they are now in the middle of touring the world with the biggest dance DJ trio in the world.

Swedish House Mafia are the DJ super group consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, who recently released the hit single One.

Successful enough on their own, when they come together to DJ you can bet a fair few people come along to watch.

“It was amazing to be part of such big shows in front of so many people,” says Harry of the first few gigs of the tour. “DJ-ing in front of 200,000 people is the day job for these guys, but for us it was a totally new experience.”

Following a successful Kissy Sell Out show at the Brixton Academy, Harry and Sam were approached by the creative director for Swedish House Mafia.

“He asked us if we would like to come out to some gigs across the world with them, of course we said yes, and he gave us some direction on how he wanted the visuals to look, so we got straight to it.

“Right from the word go there was a lot more pressure on this job than any other we’d done in the past, because they are such big names in the dance music world. We thrive on the pressure though,” says Harry.

“On this tour we have been part of the team that has played to 160,000 people at a festival in LA played the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and stayed in some seriously smart hotels – these guys don’t mess around. It’s been a real eye-opener.”

Harry and Sam are still touring with the trio and have Amsterdam, Cannes, Belgium and Creamfields festival back in the UK on the itinerary.

“We’ve certainly clocked up some air miles on this tour and all has gone smoothly except for when we had to literally run onto the plane in Las Vegas,” laughs Harry.
