FOUR people were injured after a horrific head-on crash on Thursday morning (july 15).

The collision, involving a silver Vauxhall Vectra and a red Suzuki Grand Vitara estate, happened near the New Queen Inn on the B3347 Ringwood Road at Avon at 9.45am.

The male driver of the Suzuki was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and flown to hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

The female driver of the Vectra and her two passengers were also taken to hospital.

Police shut the road between Ringwood and Christchurch for more than three hours before it was re-opened just after 1pm.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said the Suzuki driver had been trapped in the vehicle but was conscious.

The spokesman added that no-one received life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is not yet known but landlord of the New Queen Inn, Arwel Jones, said speed cameras could improve safety along that stretch of road.

He said: “It has always been a point of concern for the community that the speed goes from 40mph on the bend of the road to 30mph while still on the bend.

“It can attract floods as well. It’s a dangerous corner if taken at speed.

“There has been a series of accidents over the past three years but this is the first that has happened in the six months I’ve been here.”

He added: “Something needs to be done.”
