BUXTON’S Craig Cook was in irrepressible 15-point form but Buccaneers dug deep to pull off an impressive 49-41 triumph over one of the title favourites.

Cook reeled off five heat victories, including one with a pulsating fourth-to-first opening lap burst in race 15 past Daniel Halsey, Chris Mills and Adam Allott.

But Cook lost his chance to go through the card when he inexplicably fell on the fourth turn, third circuit, while leading race six.

Hitmen’s spearhead got into trouble when he drifted too wide following a split second loss of concentration.

The mistake gifted Buccaneers a vital 5-1 from Mills and Halsey that proved pivotal in the final analysis as the Dorset side protected their long unbeaten home run since the team’s formation in 2009.

Bournemouth have now won all 22 of their matches at Wimborne Road.

Their latest triumph, which gleaned three match points, also propelled them back into serious contention for a National League top four play-off place.

Halsey (11 paid 13) and Mills (10 paid 12) were Buccaneers’ top scorers as they took the chequered flag three times between them.

However, with fast-charging Allott (12) and the exciting Jason Garrity (nine) lighting up Poole Stadium with some spectacular passing, Bournemouth produced a solid all-round team display.

Aaron Baseby, who has taken over Buccaneers’ captaincy from his brother Mark, exemplified his side’s determination not to suffer a first home defeat.

He jumped out in front of Allott in race 14, but, just when it looked like Bournemouth’s skipper would claim a major scalp, Allott swooped and pipped him to the line by barely the width of a tyre.

Cook won heat one in the fastest third-tier time of the season at Poole, 60.97 seconds, but Buccaneers' strength in depth ensured success.
