A TERRIFIED mum urged cyclists to obey the law after her son was knocked over and dragged along the pavement in Boscombe precinct.

Emma Sibley’s five-year-old son Matthew was struck as he stepped out of Greggs on Tuesday morning at around 8.55am.

She said: “He was dragged a good six to seven feet along the ground and rolled over three times. He must have been caught on the frame.

“I just can’t believe he wasn’t injured. He must have a guardian angel.”

Cycling is banned in Boscombe precinct and the Daily Echo reported this month how police began a crackdown following residents’ complaints.

Just before the accident Emma, 21, had stopped at Greggs to buy Matthew a sausage roll on the way to Kings Park Primary School.

She said: “The cyclist was a lady in her 40s. She was close to the shop front riding fast. She kept saying ‘I am so sorry’. I was upset and screamed at her.

“Seeing him going down was like watching my life going down the drain.”

She added: “The ladies from the Age Concern shop had to shout at another three or four people to get off their bikes.”

Only three weeks earlier another cyclist managed to stop only inches away from Matthew.

“I’m getting sick of this,” said Emma. “They can go around the bus station or Hawkwood Road. There’s no need to go through the precinct.”
