A MAN was beaten, stabbed and left unconscious after being confronted by a knife-wielding robber in Bournemouth Gardens all for £4.50.

The 36-year-old, who lives in the town centre, was walking towards Crescent Road at 9 o'clock on a Friday evening when his attacker struck.

The robber demanded the man's mobile telephone and wallet. His victim tried to fend off the attacker, but was beaten to the ground and knocked unconscious. The attacker who got away with only £4.50 ran off towards Crescent Road.

His victim was taken to Poole Hospital, where he was treated for slash and stab wounds, a broken hand bone and a black eye, and stayed in the hospital for two days.

The incident took place on Friday, June 23, but police have only just revealed details and issued an e-fit of the suspect.

The vicious attack took place during the police's national knife amnesty, which has just ended. Provisional figures suggest that around 30,000 blades were handed in across the country in the five weeks since May 24.

At the last count, more than 800 had been surrendered in Dorset.

DC Andy Brix of Bournemouth CID said: "I am appealing for anyone who recognises the man pictured to contact Dorset Police as soon as possible.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the robbery or who saw or heard anything suspicious, unusual, or out of the ordinary activity."

The attacker is described as white, around 25 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, with a medium to stocky build.

He has short dark cropped hair, blue eyes and a local accent.
