KNOB-throwing competitors turned up in their hundreds to take part in the quirky contest held in Cattistock.

It was the village’s third knob-throwing competition and more people turned up than last year despite the bad weather, said organiser Nigel Collins.

The contest is held using Dorset Knob biscuits, made by Bridport-based Moore’s, which are thrown in an attempt to gain the furthest distance and beat other throwers and previous records.

No records were broken this year, but Mr Collins said that could have been down to the windy conditions.

First place winner for the men was Jack Guitor who came close to the 26.8-metre title throwing his knob a distance of 25.4 metres.

Leah Stewart was the winner for the women for the third time in a row scoring 16.75 metres.

For the under-12s Solo Roper came first throwing his knob 16.6 metres.

Mr Collins said he thought it was a “fantastic” day.

He said: “We don’t know how many people came but we have been very busy.

“We think we were busier than we were last year despite the fact the sun was shining then and we had drizzly rain yesterday.

“But we had a marquee so people could be undercover and the day was just absolutely fantastic.”

He added: “No records were broken but it was extremely windy which might have had something to do with it.”

Mr Collins also thanked the volunteers and food producers who help the day run smoothly.
