Big-hearted Daily Echo readers have earned the highest praise from a mum threatened with eviction after losing her job in the aftermath of a horrifying attack on her son.

Sue Vincent has offered the “deepest thanks” of her family to readers who have given almost £2,000 to pay rent arrears and house her son, Nick Verron.

High-flyer Nick, 25, was stabbed in the head by 18-year-old Jason Teelin during an unprovoked attack in Roumelia Lane, Boscombe, last July.

Despite staging a recovery that has confounded medical opinion, Nick now uses a wheelchair and needs round-the-clock care.

“Please convey to your readers our deepest thanks for their help and support,” said Sue.

“They are a ray of light in a very dark place and their generosity has helped not only to save my family from homelessness, but also, quite simply, helped to save a family from being ripped asunder by the pain and practicalities of a vicious and senseless attack.

“The unbelievable generosity of your readers, through their donations and the kindness of their comments, however, has served to strengthen my faith in the inherent goodness of my fellow man,” she added.

The devastated family added the prospect of homelessness to their list of worries when the Vale of Aylebsury Housing Trust threatened a possession order if £4,200 of arrears was not paid by next Tuesday, April 20. The trust has since announced a two-month hold on its intended course of action after Daily Echo reporters contacted political leaders in Buckinghamshire, including former House of Commons speaker, John Bercow MP.

Sue added: “We have been graced with many acts of kindness, large and small, since the first day of this horrific sequence of events.

“From the Dorset Police Force and the anonymous police officer who shared his tears and a tissue with me that first awful night, through Nick’s wonderful friends and colleagues, to the friends I may never meet the world over who have prayed, each in their own way and faith, for my son.”

To help Sue and Nick, send a cheque made payable to the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust to the Daily Echo, Richmond Hill, Bournemouth.
