More stories about: Christopher Chope MP
CHRIS Chope is among 70 MPs who appealed after being told to pay back some of their Commons expenses.
The Christchurch MP said yesterday how he had successfully appealed against Sir Thomas Legg’s demands for repayment of around £300.
He said: “I queried a telephone bill in 2004 which was perfectly legitimate. There was also some suggestion that I claimed more interest on my second home than I was entitled to.
"It sounds trivial and a small sum of money. But I didn’t feel that it was fair and I have now received a letter from the appeal judge saying I have been vindicated. I just want to draw a line under it now.”
The Echo has revealed how the Conservative MP’s claims had included £4,000 for food and £2,491 for carpets.
New Forest East Conservative MP Julian Lewis is also reported to have lodged an appeal.

I wonder if anyting else has been swept under that £2491 carpet paid for by taxpayers. The £4000 also gives plenty of food for thought!

There's only one thing to do, if at all possible, in the forthcoming elections vote for someone who hasn't fiddled their expenses. That way they can't do it again and the new MP will (hopefully)have a bit more integrity than any of this crooked lot. Expletives with-held

I think the problem is Members of Parliment take these sort of things for granted and expect us to not question them.
I also fail to see how they can claim for a 2nd home. Again if the accomodation was rented and the MP makes no profit from it then fine but these are all 2nd mortgages that we pay for and at the end of office the MP gets to keep the house too...........surely that cant be right. But like i said I am not an educated man so perhaps Im just dumb. But I think Im right here so not so dumb perhaps.
If Mr Chope reads this then I would like his opinion on how he thinks carpets are a work expense?
