A DISABLED woman has phoned the thief who stole her vital medical supplies to appeal for their safe return.

Grandmother Helen Herbert-Palmer’s mobile phone was among items in her handbag which was snatched during a shopping trip in Poole last Monday night.

Two insulin pens, a blood testing meter and £70 in cash were also taken by the thief who is believed to have struck in the car park at the Asda supermarket at around 5-5.30pm.

Ms Herbert-Palmer, 54, from Corfe Mullen, who has suffered from diabetes since childhood, said: “Without this equipment my condition could become life-threatening.

“While these items are very important to me they are of no use to anyone else. I use the blood-testing meter several times a day. I need a carer and there are days when I can’t even get out of bed.”

She added: “I kept the phone for emergencies; to ring my son or 999. When I rang it I was shocked and angry when someone answered at the other end but didn’t speak.

“I rang again and left a message saying that I needed to get my possessions back. I suggested that they could be left in a public place.

“I’m just hoping that the person responsible has a conscience and will decide to give me my belongings back,” she said.

“I’ve also reported the theft to the police and changed my locks but I don’t hold out much hope.”
