FOR the uninitiated, the Hacienda was a groundbreaking Manchester nightclub that ran from 1982 to 1997.
One of its co-owners was Peter Hook, who just happened to be a founding member of Joy Division and New Order.
The Hook-mixed compilation reflects the important role the Hacienda played in kick-starting the UK dance music scene, drawing heavily on the imported Det-roit and Chicago house records that became so influential in creating acid house music.
Frankie Knuckles, Larry Heard and DJ Phuture are all present and correct, not to mention homegrown talent from A Guy Called Gerald and of course New Order.
A faithful selection of pulsating underground tracks that still sound like they’ve been beamed from another planet.
