POLICE are growing increasingly concerned about the welfare of an elderly Purbeck man, last seen at his home several days ago.

Michael George Laing, aged 74, was spotted eating an ice cream in Wareham’s South Street at midday, either last Thursday or Friday.

His car has since been found abandoned in the town’s North Street.

Police have already mounted a sizeable search operation, which included the force’s helicopter.

Mr Laing, described as “vulnerable”, lives in Harman’s Cross, near Corfe Castle.

Sgt Des Conner said: “He is easily confused and we don’t believe that he can take proper care of himself.”

Michael is described as five foot eight inches tall, of slim build, with a gaunt appearance and greying hair.

He is bow-legged and walks slowly trailing his left leg. He may be wearing a grey jumper and stained light blue jeans.
