ANOTHER seven-ride spectacular from Jerran Hart helped Bournemouth hold off a relentless challenge from the Isle of Wight and triumph 49-41.

Garry May’s side voyaged across the Solent this evening, determined to stage a repeat of their 57-34 rout in their opening meeting of the season at Smallbrook.

Bournemouth were forced to fight their way off the rocks, as the Islanders refused to let the league leaders take charge.

However, with Hart bagging a fantastic 14 points at reserve, Buccaneers strength in depth proved too much for the Isle of Wight to handle.

The hosts went ahead in heat one after Jay Herne made an unusually slow start, allowing home skipper Nick Simmons pull clear.

Buccaneers levelled with a 4-2 of their own in the reserves race, which Jerran Hart won by miles.

The Isle of Wight were then on the verge of a maximum in race three, as Tom Brown and Ben Hopwood led Mark Baseby and Kyle Newman.

But Hopwood lost it at speed on lap two, turn four and clattered hard into the fence, with Newman clipping the former Scunthorpe man as he tried to lay his machine down.

Hopwood was excluded but Brown held off Baseby to win the re-run comfortably.

Bournemouth stole ahead in heat four after Danny Warwick rocketed out of the traps to beat Chris Johnson, who passed Hart for second spot.

Herne kept Buccaneers ahead with a brilliant win in heat five, but the Islanders levelled thanks to the ride of the night from Simmons.

Despite missing the start, he dived under a slowing Warwick on lap two, bend one, before making a breathtaking, high-speed move around Hart at the end of lap three.

Chris Johnson continued Islanders’ winning streak in race seven and Brendan Johnson triumphed in heat eight.

Bournemouth grabbed second and third in these races, though, to ensure the victories did no damage.

But then disaster struck for the away team when Warwick, who endured a nightmare evening with two blown engines, suffered bike trouble while leading heat nine.

Brown and Hopwood stormed through for a maximum and put the Islanders four points up.

Buccaneers quickly pulled two back through a Mark Baseby and Newman 4-2 in race 10.

The visitors then brought a sizeable, travelling Bournemouth contingent to their feet with a 4-2 from the fast-trapping Herne and Aldridge in heat 11.

With the wind firmly in their sails, Buccaneers stole ahead in race 12 when reserve replacement Hart led Newman home to a 4-2 over Chris Johnson.

The Islanders kept the meeting on a knife edge as Chris Johnson and Simmons both powered their way past Hart to follow Bournemouth skipper Herne home in heat 13.

But Hart recovered beautifully as he and Mark Baseby sealed a massive win for the Buccaneers with a fast 5-1 over Hopwood and Hill in race 14.
