SPECTACULAR Somerley Park near Ringwood will play host to the 60th Ellingham Show on Saturday.

The traditional agricultural show, which has maintained its close links to the farming community, has a packed programme full of country pursuits with something to suit the whole family.

Animal lovers will be in seventh heaven with the game gun dog and hawk display, the pony club racing and the exciting show-jumping competitions.

Expert riders dressed in full Spanish rider regalia will be demonstrating the skills and panache of the Iberian horses, returning to the ring after wowing the crowds in 2006.

The ever-popular heavy horse driving trial will see a fast and furious display by the skilled horses, drivers and passengers when they take to the main ring to round up the spectacular events of the day.

The Daily Echo-backed show’s diamond jubilee promises to have visitors flocking to see the sheep, cows and donkeys, with children getting a chance to pet the friendlier farm animals.

A selection of vintage motorbikes will also be on display alongside the Austin 7 club with Punch and Judy shows entertaining youngsters throughout the day.

Old favourites like the cattle and donkey competitions, the dog with the waggiest tail contest, craft tent, horticultural marquee and a fancy dress parade for animals and owners will also be returning.

There will also be a scarecrow dressing competition and performances from Ferndown Concert Brass Band for those wanting a break from the fabulous show-jumping and agricultural competitions.

Show spokesman Michael Lingham-Willgoss said: “This is a show that you always look forward to and always think back to. We have worked hard over the years to ensure this is the case and hope to continue doing so.”

Entrance is £8 for an adult, concessions are £5 and children get in for free.
