CHRIS Morgan has a crazy plan to tour the football clubs of London pushing a wheelbarrow.

The Ferndown tiler is trying to raise money for Help for Heroes and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

“It was one of those silly bets you have in the pub,” said the 46-year-old.

“It just came into my head to do it and it really is as daft as it sounds.

“I’d read about John Thornton and his family and it’s one of those stories that touches your heart.”

Chris will start at Twickenham rugby ground at 8am on August 3 then head off to 13 football league clubs.

Chris aims to finish in five days so can walk the final steps up Wembley Way as crowds flock to the Charity Shield final between Chelsea and Manchester United.

The original idea was to get the wheelbarrow filled up with money as he went along but he wisely decided against lugging thousands of pounds through the streets of London.

“I’ll only be doing it during the day between 8am and 6pm and I hope to get some soldiers to come with me part of the way so I should be alright!”

Arsenal FC has donated a signed photo of manager Arsene Wenger and Chris hopes to pick up more memorabilia along the way for an auction at the end.

The wheelbarrow has been donated by Portsmouth-based construction company Warings, which is currently working at Bournemouth Airport.

Ferndown Royal Marine John Thornton was killed in Afghanistan last year aged 22 and his family set up the foundation in his memory.

Chris knows he will find it hard but says he is “pretty normally fit”.

“I am sure my arms will be aching and I will be thinking what am I doing this for?” he said.

“But I was talking to some of the lads when 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment paraded through Southampton and it just makes you want to carry on and do it.”

Chris said people could donate by visiting the Just Giving website, then searching for Help for Heroes and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
