BASED on the true events of a family that moved into a former funeral parlour for ease of access to their son’s cancer treatment, this reasonably frightening film veers between the acceptable and the ridiculous, the impressive and the embarrassing.
Horror stalwart Virgina Madsen puts in one of her better turns as the stressed out mom, and Kyle Gallner’s ailing Matt is pretty darned convincing, but the carved-up corpses simply aren’t scary enough, despite some pretty jolting sequences.
The DVD’s extras make up for any flaws though, with an interesting documentary into the true story, including eye witness accounts, which help piece together this rather odd jigsaw.
