Queen Victoria has always had a bit of an image problem.
To be blunt, she has always come across as a stumpy grey-haired harridan with a complete sense of humour failure.
In short (and she was a veritable midget), a miserable old trout.
Refreshing, then, to see her portrayed as a pouting sexpot in this chronicle of her early life and romance with Prince Albert.
Although to be blunt – Emily Blunt this time – Victoria was at least three feet shorter than the lanky actress who plays her.
Aside from height discrepancies, this is the sort of flash period piece that we Brits do well.
The cast is packed with some of our finest thesps, but not a sniff of work for Dame Judi this time.
