CHILDREN at an East Dorset school have impressed judges with ideas to “make a difference”.
Proposals from two teams at West Moors Middle School were voted the first and second placed entries in a competition organised by Ferndown Upper School.
Year eight pupils from West Moors, along with youngsters at Ferndown Middle School, were challenged by charities and businesses, including the Daily Echo, to come up with ideas to help their community.
A Dragons’ Den-style judging panel decided a campaign by youngsters from the school to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning would make the biggest difference.
Leaflets, a website, and a raffle open only to participants who have their home appliances checked for the deadly gas, were among the proposals that most impressed judges.
The second placed team focused on raising money for the Air Ambulance service. Jamie Mitchell, 13, designed websites for both proposals.
Sixth-form students at Ferndown Upper School helped the pupils to prepare their presentations.
