A Poole GP has been thrown out by NHS Bournemouth and Poole.

Dr Ralph Vadas was suspended a year ago after “serious concerns” were bought to the attention of the primary care trust (PCT).

Following a full investigation into the issue, the PCT has now taken the decision to cancel Dr Vadas’s contract, though details of the reason for his sacking remain undisclosed.

It means he will no longer provide medical services at the West Canford Heath Medical Centre and the PCT said contingency plans were being made to arrange cover.

A NHS Bournemouth and Poole spokesperson: “This decision, which is permanent and final, was made in the light of serious concerns raised regarding Dr Vadas, which have now been fully investigated.

“We appreciate this may cause concern among Dr Vadas’ patients and would like to reassure them that this action was taken in their best interests.”

Dr Vadas will now be subject to an investigation by the General Medical Council (GMC), who also suspended him for 18 months following last year’s concerns.

Though no “fitness to practice” hearing has yet been scheduled, Dr Vadas could face one depending on the outcome of the GMC probe.

Ultimately, he could face being struck off the Medical Register.

Since Dr Vadas’s suspension last year, patients have used the Harvey practice in Broadstone and Merley.

Patients of the West Canford Heath practice will now be consulted.

The PCT spokesperson said: “We are working with a neighbouring GP practice and with Dr Vadas to continue to provide GP services from the current surgery premises.

“This arrangement will be in place while we consider how to ensure GP services to affected patients. We are opening a four-month consultation.”
