THE John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, set up to honour a Royal Marine from Ferndown who was killed in Southern Afghanistan last year, will host a corporate hospitality day during this year’s More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival.

The Foundation was officially launched during last year’s air festival at a corporate event hosted by De Havilland Aviation.

The hospitality day on Saturday August 22 will allow funds to be raised to continue to help other people “climb as high as they can dream”.

The hospitality day runs from 11am to 6pm in a luxury beach front marquee, central to the air display performance area.

The VIP day includes a ‘park and ride’ service from the centre of Bournemouth to the cliff top lift above the marquee, a Pimms reception, two-course lunch with a glass of wine, and afternoon tea and cakes.

There is an exclusive VIP bar and decking area, giving outstanding views of the flying display and a complimentary Air Festival souvenir programme will be provided.

A charity auction will also be held to raise funds for the Foundation.

Organisers hope a number of pilots involved in the display will also come along and meet the guests, operational circumstances allowing.

John’s parents, Linda and Pete Thornton, said: “This is a unique opportunity to experience one of the leading air shows in the UK from a very exclusive vantage point while enjoying some first class hospitality, all in aid of a cause that is very close to our hearts and which continues to benefit young people.”

During its first year the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation has awarded £9,000 to Ferndown Upper School, Dorset and Wilts Wing Air Training Corps and the Air Cadets Junior Leaders Course, and have assisted 15 young people to achieve their dreams.

Tables of 10 for the corporate hospitality day are available at £950 per table but smaller groups and individual tickets at £95 per head are also welcome.
