TWO men have been jailed for manslaughter and conspiracy to burgle for their part in the brutal killing of frail pensioner Reginald Baker at his home in September.

John Wayne Wilkinson, 40, of Ford Lane, Ferndown, last month found guilty of orchestrating the burglary which ended in Mr Baker's death, was sentenced to three years for conspiracy to burgle.

Joby Barney and John James were both given life sentences for murder following a trial at Winchester Crown Court last month.

Today Bristol Crown Court was told Daniel Coker, 23, of London Road, and 19-year-old Trevor Gray, of The Friary, Salisbury, were waiting in a car near Reginald Baker's Beech Grange home on September 5 while Barney and James tortured the 75-year-old to death.

Coker was sentenced to six years in prison and Gray to five years and nine months in a young offenders institution when they appeared at Bristol Crown Court this morning.

Sentencing, Judge John Royce said: "It must have been quite obvious to the two of you that something very serious had taken place within that house and yet what did you do?

"The four of you exchanged some coins that had been taken from Mr Baker then the four of you, that evening, went on a drinking spree, which indicates that the remorse you now say you have is remorse that was not present on that day."

Mr Baker, who had terminal cancer, suffered horrific injuries including a broken back and neck, 62 fractures to his ribs and extensive deep muscle bruising.

The cartilage in his left ear had been smashed and he had stab wounds to the back of his hand and his face.

Barney, 25, of Ringwood Road, Alderholt and James, of London Road, Salisbury, were both given life sentences for murder following a trial at Winchester Crown Court last month.
