FULL details of the Queen’s visit to Dorset have been confirmed.

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit the county on Thursday, June 11.

Arriving by Royal Train at Weymouth, she will visit the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy – where she will meet Olympic hopefuls and locals – Weymouth seafront and Esplanade in the morning, before heading into Purbeck.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will arrive at the Tank Museum, Bovington, at lunchtime, before heading to Goldy’s Farm Shop – which is recovering from a fire – at Lytchett Matravers in the afternoon.

The Tank Museum is celebrating the completion of its £16.5 million redevelopment and the Queen will officially open the new exhibition hall and wing.

Director Richard Smith said: “The connections between the Royal Armoured Corps, the Royal Tank Regiment and the Royal Family are woven into the history of the tank and the Tank Museum itself.

“Her Majesty and the Duke’s visit will mark a moment of enormous pride for all the staff at the museum who have worked so hard to deliver our redevelopment project and it is particularly rewarding to have them officially open our new wing.”

The final visit of the day will be to Goldy’s, where the Queen will open the new Energy Centre, the award-winning shop’s latest venture, which aims to bring together sustainable technology with traditional farming methods.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be escorted on their tour of Goldy’s by co-directors Jenny Goldsack and Harry Banham.

Jenny said: “We are really very delighted that the Royal Party will finish their Dorset day with us at Goldy’s Farm Shop. We have a dynamic set of things to show them, from the newest technology to the oldest of traditions.”
