FIVE men have been arrested in connection with an attack in a Bournemouth street which left the victim with serious internal and head injuries.

The teenagers, all from the Bournemouth area, were taken into custody on Thursday or early yesterday morning for questioning under suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Detectives say they received a number of calls on Thursday after the Daily Echo published CCTV pictures of men they wanted to speak to about a gang attack which happened in Boscombe on Sunday, May 3.

A 38-year-old man is thought to have been set upon by around 10 men in Centenary Way as he walked towards the Sovereign Centre car park after leaving the Opera House at 3am.

The victim suffered serious internal injuries and head wounds and was taken to intensive care where he is still receiving treatment three weeks on. His condition was described on Thursday as stable and improving.

Police said yesterday five men, three aged 19, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old, had been arrested and were assisting police with their enquires.

Any witnesses to the attack or anyone with information should call 01202 222222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
