Documenting wilder, darker days in the development of young Patrick Wolf, The Bachelor is the first part of his much-feted growing up story.

It dwells on the high times and low lives he trawled in his quest to subvert notions of the modern day pop star.

As well as the sometimes sinister synthesiser sounds we are are treated to his fondness for traditional Celtic music forms as Eliza Carthy crops up to add her instantly recognisable voice to proceedings, as does actress Tilda Swinton.

The songs cover a journey that many have made before, but Wolf offers fair insight on pieces like Damaris and Blackdown, which tap into the lure of dedicated hedonism while warning of the price to be paid.

Elsewhere, Vulture sticks closer to his pop roots.
