“How many more movies do we need about the Holocaust? I mean, we get it, it was grim, move on.”
Not my words, but the words of Kate Winslet as “herself” in comedy show Extras. And she (or Ricky Gervais, who wrote the line) has a point.
Her next line, ironically, was “I’ve noticed if you do a film about the Holocaust – guaranteed Oscar” and so it proved.
She’s Hanna, an older woman who has an affair with a young man who grows up to be lawyer Ralph Fiennes, and who ends up defending her from an accusation of war crimes.
The script is fine, and it’s all watchable stuff. However, the slow-moving direction will have you looking at your watch.
