Hamworthy may not be particularly hilly but it has the next best thing – a new BMX and mountain bike dirt track.
Youngsters from Carter Community School, Poole were asked in a survey by the student council what recreational facilities they would like and a place to ride a bike came top.
The track behind the school has come about after 19 months hard work by officers of the Safer Neighbourhood Team, Borough of Poole, and the school and Dorset Probation offenders carried out some of the hard work.
A competition was held at the school to design the track layout, which will take place later this year.
“It has been a long and, at times, challenging process to turn this idea into a reality, but the enthusiasm of our community, our team and our partners has been the driving force in getting this facility built,” said PC Linda Soutine, who led the project.
