A ONCE-popular New Forest campsite has been re-opened and given a fresh identity for the new season.
The site at New Park, Brockenhurst, was previously run by John Korbey of New Park Farm who retired in 2004.
Now the 100-pitch site has been taken on by the New Forest and Hampshire Agricultural Show Society and re-named Long Meadow.
Temporary toilet and shower blocks of the type used at the New Forest Show will be provided this season but, if the site proves to be a success, will be replaced by permanent blocks in 2010/11.
Dogs are welcome, but must not be allowed to chase after the fallow and red deer that regularly graze the New Park turf.
A show society spokesman said: “This is part of the overall long term plans to update New Park to modern standards.
“Camping is on open grassland, not within the ancient and ornamental woodland, therefore visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional camping experience in the New Forest.”
