SHERBORNE has a new bishop.
Dr Graham Kings, the vicar of St Mary’s Islington in the Diocese of London, has succeeded Bishop Tim Thornton who became Bishop of Truro last year.
Dr Kings said he felt a “deep call” to work in to Dorset and that his desire to work “in context” would drive him to learn about the county’s urban centres and small, rural churches.
“There are some lively growing churches and some solid smaller congregations and I look forward to getting to know them very much indeed.”
“I hope I bring with me enough experience to be an inspirer of mission in the deaneries and parishes. I look forward to getting to know the church in The Sudan too,” said Dr Kings.
The new Bishop has studied at Oxford and Cambridge, and has served in two inner London parishes, and in Kenya.
Dr Kings is the theological secretary of evangelical group, Fulcrum. Commentators have described him as a “forward thinking” pastor and teacher.
