WELSH operatic star Katherine Jenkins blotted her apparently spotless copybook recently with confessions that a number of years ago she’d taken cocaine.

Despite the sensational headlines – “I could have been like Amy Winehouse” – it was apparent that Miss Jenkins’ dabbling had been of a decidedly casual nature.

Happily her many fans are unlikely to be swayed by five minutes of dubious press and ticket sales for her concert at the BIC on Saturday will be as strong as ever.

Needless to say 28-year-old Jenkins, whose five classical studio albums have all reached the top spot, remains a hugely popular act.

Her last album, Sacred Arias, also stormed into the top five of the pop album charts, holding its own in the face of stiff competition from acts like Sugarbabes, Keane and Oasis.

Her previous album, Rejoice, reached number three, outselling Girls Aloud and The Spice Girls.

She also holds the record for being the fastest-selling mezzo soprano ever.
