Shhhhhhh! The ‘Keep Quiet’ notices at Rossmore library, Poole were ignored as hip hop band Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip put on a blistering live performance. The unusual setting for the evening was part of the bands Christmas Library Tour - Word Up. The aim was to attract young people who may not read regularly, or visit libraries and change their perceptions.
Adding an additional dimension to the night and highlighting the lyrical theme of the tour, was a novel Q&A session with Scroobius ahead of the main performance. The front man fielded questions from the bustling crowd about his lyrical inspirations, facial hair, dress sense and of course libraries.
“I have effectively grown up in libraries since my mum has always worked in them! People don't realise how lucky we are to have so much information and literature literally at our finger tips," said Scroobius.
Support came from indie folk poet, George Pringle who got heads nodding before Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip got hips shaking amongst the paperbacks.
A fantastic show and an interesting concept that gave fans a new level of interaction, hopefully it could catch on.
