HAVING stretched their two songs (the fast one and the slow one) to breaking point on their first album, The Killers then pitched for Springsteen territory and tried to play it moody on Sam’s Town with some success.

It’s no surprise then to find Brandon Flowers & co flailing around for something new on their third outing.

And what they’ve come up with are Euro-disco (Human, Joy Ride) and banal Duran-style white boy funk (I Can’t Stay, Losing Touch). There are flashes of Flowers’ lyrical lunacy and the odd glimpse of the melodic skill that etched Somebody Told Me and Mr Brightside on the collective memory a few years ago.

However, all too often the whole thing sounds like it was contrived to give Feeling fans something to listen to in edgier moments.
