I AM wholeheartedly in agreement with Elaine Glover (Echo May 6) who believes that there is an urgent need for the number of public toilets to be greatly increased.

What concerns me most, though, is the state of many of the conveniences I have visited lately, many of which I can only describe as resembling malodorous insanitary, medieval dungeons.

All public toilets should as a matter of extreme priority be brought into the 21st century.

Every toilet closet should be well ventilated, sound proofed and contain a bidet.

Like Elaine Glover, I also believe that the reintroduction of toilet attendants would be ideal in order to maintain standards of hygiene and to ensure the safety of the public.
